Many Paths, One Heart: Finding Jesus Through Yoga
There’s an old Hindu proverb that says there are hundreds of paths up the mountain, all leading to the one. The one who wastes time is the one running around the mountain telling everyone else their path is wrong. This wisdom has become a guiding light for me, especially as I reflect on my journey to discovering the essence of Jesus Christ—not through traditional Christianity, but through the practice of yoga.
Finding My Way, Not by Choice but by Survival
I wasn’t looking for Jesus. In fact, I wasn’t looking for anything at all other than a way to make it through the day. My world had completely crumbled—I’d lost my father, gone through a breakup, and even lost our dog. I felt like I had no one left. During the isolation of COVID, when it seemed like everything I’d known was gone, I was just trying to find a reason to keep going.
I turned to meditation and yoga almost by accident. I’d signed up for a yoga teacher training program, not to teach, but to deepen my own practice. Then, a meditation teacher certification became available as part of a deal, so I thought, Why not? What began as a way to pass the time became a lifeline. I had these online lessons, and in the midst of a dark and lonely time, they became my daily practice, my sadhana—a structure I could hold onto when everything else had slipped away.
It was in that space, with no expectations and no plan other than to survive each moment, that something unexpected began to happen. Through these practices, I found a place of stillness within, where I could finally connect with the love and peace I’d been searching for all along. And there, quietly, I found the essence of Jesus—not as a figure outside of me, but as a presence within my own heart.
All Paths Lead To The One! God made ALL of Them!
I want to be clear: I have the deepest respect for every Christian path and for every tradition I explored. In fact, each step along the way was a guru for me, a teacher that brought me here. What I’ve come to understand is that no one way is “right” or “wrong.” Every path holds truth in its own way, and what matters is finding the path that aligns with your own inner knowing.
For me, that alignment came through yoga, but that doesn’t mean it’s the path for everyone. I honor every person’s journey, and I’ve learned that the only wasted time is spent judging others’ paths. True freedom comes when we release that judgment and recognize that each person is guided by their own heart and their own divine connection.
The Practice
What I’ve found—and what I hope to share—is that spiritual discovery is, at its core, a practice. Whether through Christianity, yoga, or another path, it’s about the daily, disciplined act of connecting with our inner truth. It’s not just about accepting a figure or concept; it’s about actively living in alignment with it.
This daily practice, or sadhana, has been essential for me in finding the Christ consciousness within. I believe everyone has the power to access this inner presence, but it requires dedication, discipline, and an open heart. It is through this kind of practice that I found Jesus, that I found my true north, and it is my hope that others, too, will find that connection within themselves.
Follow Your Heart
If there’s one message I could share with others, it’s this: Trust your heart, and let it guide you to the place of love, peace, and understanding that’s meant for you. We each have a unique path up the mountain, and by embracing our own journey, we allow others to do the same.
Whether through traditional religion, spiritual practices like yoga, or something else entirely, I believe each of us is being led toward the same love and truth. And when we reach the peak, we find that it’s not a destination outside of us but a presence that has been within us all along.
