The Changing Colors of My Heart: My Ongoing Journey of Spirituality
When we embark on the spiritual path, we often hold impressions—beliefs about what the experience should look like. My journey with the heart chakra taught me that the only constant in spiritual awakening is change itself.
At one point, my heart chakra revealed itself as a vast green outer space, an experience that felt cosmic and infinite. This color, traditionally associated with the heart center (Anahata chakra), felt fitting. For a long time, I assumed it would always remain green, as though the awakening had reached its final form. But assumptions rarely hold true on this path.
The Green Heart and Kundalini Awakening
When I first began to open my heart chakra, it was during a deeply transformative period of Kundalini practice. Under the daily guidance of my master—a yoga teacher from Rishikesh, India—I worked diligently for a year to harmonize my energy.
Though I had already experienced a Kundalini rising prior to this, it had been turbulent and unregulated—a chaotic awakening that left my life in disarray. Kundalini energy, when unregulated, can tear through your being like a storm, uprooting everything, leaving you vulnerable and raw. Yet, as difficult as that was, it forced me to seek balance, surrender, and alignment. Through daily sadhana, I was able to cultivate the divine intelligence of this energy with discipline and grace, allowing it to heal and open my heart chakra.
It was then that I began to see green—a luminous, infinite green—like the vastness of space itself. This cosmic green became a representation of healing, expansion, and love without boundaries. I thought, “This is it. This is my heart.”
The Shift: From Green to Pink
Years later, as I dove into teachings that resonated deeply—reading the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and Mary Magdalene Revealed—something shifted. These texts opened me to the divine feminine aspects of Christ’s message and the tender, transformative power of unconditional love.
In meditation, when I tuned into my heart chakra, it no longer appeared green. Instead, it revealed itself as pink—soft, warm, and vibrant.
Both green and pink are associated with the Anahata chakra, representing healing and compassion, yet they express different qualities:
• Green represents balance, growth, and connection to the universal heart.
• Pink symbolizes unconditional love, gentleness, and the divine feminine’s soft, nurturing embrace.
At first, I was surprised. I had grown attached to my heart space as a cosmic green, believing that this was “me.” But as I sat with this new pink presence, I realized it was neither better nor worse—simply a reflection of my inner transformation.
The Lesson of Impermanence
This experience reminded me of a simple yet profound truth: everything changes. Even the way we perceive energy, chakras, and spiritual experiences is subject to the flow of impermanence.
In Buddhism, the concept of Anicca (impermanence) teaches us that clinging to any fixed experience—no matter how beautiful—will eventually cause suffering. This is true not just for physical life, but for our spiritual experiences as well.
When we attach to certain visions, colors, or forms of awakening, we risk missing the deeper truth:
• The divine is ever-changing and evolving within us.
• Spiritual growth is not linear; it is cyclical, like the seasons or the breath.
• We must remain open, unattached, and willing to surrender to the unfolding mystery of our own hearts.
Our Hearts Are Infinite
The heart chakra is the center of unity. It bridges the material (lower chakras) with the spiritual (upper chakras), connecting us to the divine flow of love and life. To me, seeing my heart change from green to pink symbolizes a deepening awareness:
• From cosmic expansiveness to intimate love.
• From universal connection to personal embodiment of divine feminine grace.
Yet I hold no expectation that this is the final state. My heart may transform again—perhaps to white light, golden radiance, or another form entirely. The truth is, our hearts are infinite, reflecting the ever-changing nature of the divine within us.
Let Go of Knowing
On this spiritual journey, we often feel the need to define our experiences. We think we “know” how things are—what our chakras should look like, what awakening should feel like, or who we are becoming. But the divine cannot be pinned down. It reveals itself to us in layers, constantly shifting and transforming.
Closing Reflections
My journey with my heart chakra—from green to pink—taught me to embrace impermanence and trust the unfolding process. If you find yourself surprised by changes in your spiritual experience, don’t resist them. Let them remind you of the mystery and beauty of this path.
We are not meant to “arrive” at a final version of awakening. We are meant to flow with it, like a river finding its way back to the ocean.
So, whether your heart feels green, pink, golden, or beyond, let it be. Each color, each form, is simply a momentary expression of the infinite love that you are.
